Earmunch Logo

When designing the logo we knew exactly what we wanted, it was just the case of creating it. We wanted the logo to be “cartoony” and “playful” so that it would appeal to a younger audience but also wanted to keep a sense of seriousness to emphasise that our news channel is for teenagers rather than children. We decided to go on www.dafont.com to search for a suitable font, there were several fonts that some of us liked and some of us didn’t but after searching for what seemed like forever we found a font that we could all agree was appropriate – SC Gumkids.

This is exactly what we were looking for, playful but not too playful. We decided that to make the logo more interesting there should be a bite out of the ‘E’ and our monster icon should be sitting on top of the ‘M’ and that we wanted to logo colour to be blue. I took these ideas home and played around with the logo on Photoshop and was able to create this.

The team were happy with my efforts but we then thought that the use of sky blue for the logo was too childish and thought that too make the logo appeal to a more mature audience we should change it to purple, so that’s what I did.

We all agreed that the logo is suitable and so this is the finalised version.

These are some sketches of the logo and our trademark monster that I produced just before I started experimenting on Photoshop. The monster was a spontaneous addition to the logo and we felt it was a perfect representative for our company - a monster wearing headphones, so when people think of Earmunch they think of the monster. The logo sketches were for comparison to see if there were any other ideas we could potentially use but we already knew what we really wanted.
